The Dakota Thunder Shire Hitch originated in 2010. Joe Biren, manger and driver for the Hitch, began to build the team of 6 beautiful Shire Draft Horses. Now, this was no easy task as Shires are rather rare in the US, so he traveled the region (SD, IA, IL) and also to New York to find these beautiful animals. And of course, one Shire from just down the road at Jim Suprenant's, Slayton, MN. It was also not an easy task as the Biren kids (7 of them belonging to LeRoy and JoAnn of Iona, MN: John, Tim, Chris, Pat, Sara, Joe and Kathy) grew up raising and showing Belgian Draft Horses. But Houston wanted a Shire Hitch and so Joe helped make that happen.
Joe and crew traveled over the next 4 years to several shows: Draft Horse Shows, County Fairs, State Fairs and the past 2 years to the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series Finals in Oklahoma City, OK. What an honor and acheivement in a short period of time!
